Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA).

What Is IPSA?

IPSA is a personnel security assurance framework for government contractors that will ensure that workers they have sponsored for National Security Vetting (NSV), are effectively managed and provided with the same degree of aftercare as vetted staff are in HMG.

This applies whether workers are directly employed by the contractor or are employed within their supply chain (i.e. their NSV network). It is based on CPNI’s Personnel Security Maturity Model (PSMM). Unlike Facility Security Clearance (FSC), previously known as List X, an organisation does not need to have a contractual requirement to hold classified material on their own premises to apply for IPSA, however they must have a requirement to provide NSV workers in support of HMG contracts (or international defence classified contracts). While IPSA can be standalone in this respect, all government contractors who undertake FSC must also undertake IPSA.

What are the benefits of
IPSA certification?

Achieving Industry Personnel Security Assurance (IPSA) certification offers significant advantages. It provides clear guidelines for obtaining a NSV sponsorship account, ensuring effective implementation of security measures. This improves the organisation’s credibility and trust with stakeholders.

IPSA certification enables companies to sponsor their own employees, enhancing operational efficiency and control over personnel security measures.

Currently, only the Ministry of Defence (MOD) mandates IPSA certification, opening potential opportunities for certified organisations. Other government departments may require IPSA in the future, indicating potential expansion of opportunities. IPSA certification is a key strategic investment for organisations prioritising security.

IPSA certification allows organisations to demonstrate their commitment to stringent security measures, making them more appealing to potential partners and clients in sensitive sectors. This heightened reputation can offer a competitive edge, particularly in industries where stringent security protocols are paramount. The potential for wider government recognition in the future suggests that early certification could position a company favourably for upcoming opportunities.

IPSA certification isn’t just about meeting the present needs; it’s also a strategic move for future growth and success.
